Match names you have heard to the era in which they lived and worked. Most of those listed were Christian Workers or Gospel Workers or ‘Workers’. Loosely translated, a ‘worker’ is one who has a specific assignment in the outreach mission of the church in addition to being a member of the congregation. The original old-timer was Bro. L.N. Bourcey, a preacher. He went from Portland to Salem to hear Sister Crawford preach in 1906 and returned to Portland as a minister in the very beginning. During camp meeting in 1918 he died ‘with-his-boots-on’ a few days after preaching the funeral of someone else!
